Virtual Bouquets to Art: Q&A with Renowned Florist Philippa Craddock

Philippa Craddock’s style encompasses the English country garden idyll, focusing on sustainability in her techniques and the sourcing of the flowers she uses for clients. Her past clients include Vogue, Christian Dior, and the wedding of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Join us as she gives insight into her design aesthetic and discusses her experiences as a world-renowned florist across the pond.

New to Bouquets to Art? Learn about the museum’s most beloved 36-year annual tradition and fundraiser, Bouquets to Art. Museum docent Maureen Murray Fox will share the history of this weeklong event, discuss the exhibitor selection process, show images of past floral designs inspired by art, and explain what to look forward to during our weeklong virtual Bouquets to Art live programming on Facebook and Instagram.
Virtual Bouquets to Art: How Our Conservators Protect Art during Bouquets to Art

While flowers in paintings are beautiful, bringing live flowers into the galleries presents safety issues that our Conservation department is ready to handle. Paintings conservator Tricia O’Regan explains the strict process every floral designer’s set of materials must undergo during Bouquets to Art in order to protect our collection. O’Regan describes her experience of being on our team of Bouquets to Art’s “conservation sheriffs” over the past 25 years.

Did you know Bouquets to Art isn’t the only time of year the Museums are blooming? Every Monday, members of our Flower Committee volunteer group arrange new flower bouquets throughout the de Young and Legion of Honor museums. In celebration of summer, bring everything you’ve learned from our live sessions this week and join us for an interactive bouquet-building workshop. Head to your go-to flower shop to grab some fresh blooms or forage from your own garden and join to create your own moment of joy—the perfect way to cap off Virtual Bouquets to Art!

Our friends at McCalls Catering and Events, have created an exclusive Bouquets to Art inspired drink recipe. Mix a drink, or two, as you watch one of our live events this week!
La Flora Mora:

2oz tequila
-
3/4 oz lime juice
-
¼ oz agave (can also use honey instead)
-
1/4 oz elderflower liqueur
-
2 blackberries
-
top with ginger beer
-
garnish with mint
Directions: Shake all ingredients, strain, top with ginger beer.
