This year, we celebrate over 40 years of Bouquets to Art (BTA) at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF). The event was inspired by the “Art in Bloom” show at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (1976). The first event took place in 1985, attracting thousands of visitors to the de Young museum, and quickly became a signature event in the Bay Area.

This event is produced by the FAMSF special events team and the 120 members of the San Francisco Auxiliary, who lead a dozen committees, contribute funds to Opening Night, and fill close to 500 volunteer shifts the week of the event. Four suburban Auxiliary groups (Tiburon/ Belvedere, East Bay, Hillsborough, and Ross) also help with staffing and financial support.

Over the past 40 years, BTA has attracted over 900,000 visitors and raised over $10 million for the museums to support exhibitions, special events, and educational series.

This March, over 125 florists and associated designers will create innovative floral interpretations of paintings, sculptures, and architectural elements, adding to the richness and diversity of this exhibit.
